Confidence

“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10

I have heard ballet teachers and directors over the course of the years talk about how when they sense self-doubt in a dancer, it is uncomfortable to watch them from the audience’s standpoint because their self-doubt shines through their face and their dancing. Hello, that has been me many, many times. I can be super confident on stage for some reason….I think it has something to do with not being able to see the audience. But in class or audition situations, I sometimes just want to hide!

How is your confidence? Is this something you struggle with or feel a constant tension over? I think we all struggle with confidence and self-doubt. I think ballet magnifies it some because their are such high expectations of perfect lines, perfect technique, and the strive for a perfect body – notice the word “perfect”…we have got to let that go! Satan’s daily intention is to get you so distracted by busyness, expectations, and self-focus that you forget who you are in Christ, which leads to feelings of discouragement, which leads to a very distorted view of yourself….

What are your thoughts toward yourself today? How are your thoughts shaping the way you feel and live? What are your thoughts toward yourself in the studio?

“I’ll never be as good as her.”
“My director will never give me a leading role.”
“I’ll be content when I lose five more pounds.”
“I’m not as good of a mom as her.”

Any of those sound familiar?

We hear and see so many messages throughout the day. Negative messages are clamoring for our attention, affecting the way we think, and therefore affecting the way we feel and the way we live.

So we need to get intentional. We need to get intentional about getting more of God’s truth inside our hearts and minds. It will change the way we think, feel, and live. How do we get intentional about letting God’s truth inside us…

One of my all-time favorite things to do in the world is to go on a power walk. I put my headphones on and turn on worship music and just let the words of the songs about God’s truth and how He feels about me just pour into me. When I hear His truth, it helps me align my thoughts with His perspective, and it changes my day… it changes my life!  Those lies from before turn into:

“He created me and has a purpose just for me.”
“I can do anything in Christ who strengthens me.” “I have all I need in Him.”
“He formed me and made me.”

Listening to worship music is a great way to get God’s messages on your heart. Other ways would be to read His word, read it out loud, and memorize scripture.

We are His workmanship, created to do good works, WHICH GOD PREPARED IN ADVANCE FOR US TO DO!

He has a purpose for you! Every day you have a purpose! But every day, Satan is going to try to convince you otherwise and try to convince you that if you just had that one thing, whatever it is, THEN you will be truly happy. SO sisters, let’s do this together, let’s get intentional about letting God’s truth shape our thoughts, emotions, and lives! The world desperately needs women of faith – women who are secure in the promises of God. And my husband and family desperately need me to be secure in Christ….they need me to know how loved I am by Him. This is one of those songs that reminds me of Christ’s unconditional love for me and for YOU:

East to West by Third Day:

Here I am Lord and I’m drowning
In Your sea of forgetfulness
The chains of yesterday surround me
I yearn for peace and rest

I don’t want to end up
Where You found me
And it echoes in my mind
Keeps me awake tonight

I know You’ve cast my sin as far as
The east is from the west
And I stand before You now
As though I’ve never sinned

But today I feel like
I’m just one mistake away
From You leaving me this way

Jesus, can You show me just how far
The east is from the west?
‘Cause I can’t bear to see the man I’ve been
Rising up in me again

In the arms of Your mercy I find rest
You know just how far
The east is from the west
From one scarred hand to the other

I start the day, the war begins
Endless reminding of my sin
And time and time again
Your truth is drowned out by the storm I’m in

Today I feel like
I’m just one mistake away
From You leaving me this way

Jesus, can You show me just how far the east is from the west?
‘Cause I can’t bear to see the man I’ve been
Come rising up in me again

In the arms of Your mercy I find rest
‘Cause You know just how far the east is from the west
From one scarred hand to the other

I know You’ve washed me white
Turned my darkness into light
I need Your peace to get me through
To get me through this night

I can’t live by what I feel
About the truth Your word reveals
And I’m not holding onto You
But You’re holding onto me, You’re holding onto me…”

We will never stop needing Him….

I’m going to go get my walking shoes on now….

Prayer: “Amazing Lord, imprint Your thoughts toward me on my heart. May Your truths outweigh my own negative thoughts toward myself. Whenever I start believing one of those lies, help me recognize it, bring it to You, and let You remind me of You truth. Help me commit to being intentional about letting Your Word reign in my life so that Your truth reigns in my life. Take this self-doubt and transform my thought life so that I can be free to be confident because I am Your daughter!”
